Classroom Expectations
Classroom Expectations
Respect everyone in the classroom
This means no disrespecting the teacher, other students, administration, school, and/or school property. Any signs
of disrespect will not be tolerated.
Be on time
Class will begin when the bell rings. Anyone not in the classroom and in his/her seat will be counted tardy.
You are responsible for making up any material missed while being tardy.
Come to class prepared
You must bring your charged laptop, notebook, folder, and pen or pencil to class each day. If you fail to come to class prepared, you will be assigned a lunch detention.
Work diligently
We will cover a lot of material in class. You are expected to use all class time wisely. Laptops and materials are not to be put away until the bell rings. If you complete an assigned activity before the end of the hour, speak with me about moving on to another activity or read.
Late work policy
Late Work For non-weighted classes, homework that is past the due date is due by the day the unit is tested over, with the only exceptions being excused absences, IEPS or 504s. Late work turned in by the unit test will be scored at a 50% reduced score. For weighted classes, no late work will be accepted. For students with IEPs and 504s, teachers will follow the policy or any exceptions written into their plan.
Use appropriate classroom language
Cursing, name-calling, and other foul language will not be tolerated. This sort of language is unacceptable in the classroom.
Display proper classroom behavior
Proper classroom behavior is being in your seat, keeping your hands and etc. to yourself, following directions, using the correct tone of voice, and etc.
Concern yourself with your own behavior not with the behavior of others
The only person in the class whose behavior you can control and should be concerned with is your own. It is the teacher’s job to
decide the way discipline is handled, not yours. Fair is not always equal. The teacher may be aware of outstanding circumstances, which may require behavior of some students to be treated differently than that of others. It is the teacher’s job to handle classroom behavior, not yours.
Follow all teacher directives.
When you are given directions to do something, you need to follow those directions, and do it. Examples of a teacher
directive are “Work on your assignment, no talking, pull out your notebook, write down these notes, or take your seat.” If you do not understand what you are to be doing, raise your hand, wait to be called on, and ask for help.
Disciplinary Actions
If you break the classroom expectations, there will be consequences for your actions.
First infraction: warning
Second infraction: after school detention
Third infraction: Referral to the office
If the severity of the offence warrants, I may skip steps and refer you directly to the office.
Make-up work procedure
Be certain to check my on-line presence when you are absent. It will list the activities that were completed that day and will provide you with all the materials you need to complete your make-up work. Any work due the day you were absent is due when you return. I will not check to make sure you get your make-up work; you are responsible for making sure you get it. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me.
If you missed a test on the day you were absent, you are expected to make-up that test as soon as possible (the day of your return to class). You have two class periods to have your make-up work turned in. If your make-up work is not turned in by then, it will not be considered an late assignment (see late work policy above). If you are gone for a lengthy amount of time, I will work with you to make sure you have ample time to make-up your work.
Semester Exam Policy
You must have an 75% for the semester to be exempt from the semester exam.
Grade Policy
Your assignments will be worth a determined amount of points. I grade using the points system. This may make it hard for you to keep track of your grade, be certain to check your STI account often to keep track of your grades. Remember if you receive 7/10 points, you received a seventy percent for that assignment, but it doesn’t figure into your grade as a seventy percent, it is 7 out of 10 points. For example you receive an 7/10 on a assignment and a 80/100 on another assignment, you have 87/110 points, which is 79% not a 75%.
